The civil Parish of Hesket-in-the-Forest is located in the Forest of Inglewood, along the A6 between Carlisle and Penrith, within Eden District, Cumbria. Hesket Parish Council provides amenities such as public seating, bus shelters and noticeboards, owns and maintains a play area in Armathwaite village and is responsible for the operation of footway lighting in the Parish. The Council also represents the interests of local people on issues such as planning, highways and other matters of public interest as well as awarding grants to local groups and events.

Hesket Parish consists of three Wards; Armathwaite, Calthwaite and Southwaite. Each is represented by five elected members. The Council meets six times a year, on the second Tuesday of January, March, May, July, September and November at Low Hesket Village Hall, Low Hesket. The Annual Parish Meeting and Annual Council Meeting both take place in May.

The current Chair of Hesket Parish Council is Mrs Elaine Martin.

The next meeting of the Parish Council will be the Annual Parish Council Meeting to be held on May 13th 2024 at Low Hesket Village Hall.

The Parish Council is funded through a Council Tax levy. A band D property in Hesket Parish currently pays £13.72  per year for the running of the Parish Council.

Since April 2023, Hesket Parish is within the new unitary authority of Westmorland and Furness Council. For further information please visit their website at www.westmorlandandfurness.gov.uk/.

The Parish Council owns and maintains a play area in Armathwaite village as well as providing public seating and noticeboards across the Parish, maintaining grass verges, operating footway lighting and owns bus shelters in Low and High Hesket. The Council also makes regular grants to local causes, including for maintenance of churchyards in Armathwaite and High Hesket, donating towards upgrading Low Hesket Village Hall, contributing to the costs of the Prescription Delivery Service run by Court Thorn Patient Participation Group and supporting local clubs, as well as supporting the Inglewood New & Notes and the Fellrunner bus service.

The Parish Council is responsible for providing public seating and noticeboards, maintaining grass verges, operating footway lighting and owns the A6 bus shelter in Plumpton village. The Council also makes regular grants to local causes, including for maintenance of the churchyard in Plumpton, donating towards improvements at Plumpton play area, contributing to the costs of the Prescription Delivery Service run by Court Thorn Patient Participation Group and supporting local clubs, as well as supporting the Inglewood News and Notes and the Fellrunner bus service.

The Council also makes regular grants to local causes, including for maintenance of the churchyard in Ivegill, facilitating donations towards the restoration of Katherine Well, contributing to the costs of the Prescription Delivery Service run by Court Thorn Patient Participation Group and supporting local clubs, as well as supporting the Inglewood New & Notes and the Fellrunner bus service.
